Well well well… It seems Evan Spiegel, one of the co-founders of Snapchat, is really in love with his company after turning down a $3 billion cash offer by Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerburg. Now with that amount of money you could live like a king for the rest of your life and your children and your children’s children would be set for the rest of their lives too. So why would you turn an offer like that down?
Money Isn’t Everything
This offer was originally made back in late 2012 when Snapchat wasn’t that big. Mark Zuckerberg saw the potential in the app then when Facebook were about to release Facebook Poke, a messenger app similar to Snapchat, but Facebook Poke proved to be a flop.
Just over a year later, Snapchat is one of the most used apps around the world.
Evan turned the offer down because he didn’t care about the money, he saw what Snapchat could be.
Some of the happiest people I have met on my travels around the world were those in developing countries who don’t have a lot of money. Those who do have money are the ones who are the least happy because their lives seem to focus around getting more!
Evan may have been offer an incredible amount of money for Snapchat, but he saw the potential of his company and for those of you with your own businesses know, it’s fun having your own business. Whether it’s as highly successful as Snapchat or Facebook or not, it’s fun being your own boss and knowing that what you’re doing it changing peoples lives.
If you get into the mind set of helping people and bringing joy to peoples lives, then your business will be successful. The money will come if you have the right ethics and work ethos required to be the most helping in your field.
What Would You Do In His Position?
If you were put in Evan’s shoes, would you take the money?
To be perfectly honest, it would be very tempting. That amount of money would set my future generations up for the rest of their lives, but then I enjoy doing what I’m doing.
I love knowing that you guys come to my site wanting to start your own business, or wanting to travel around the world or wanting to make a better life for your family and that I can help you guys fulfill those dreams. I like helping those of you who want to make a change in your lives and I wouldn’t sell that feeling I get when I hear from you dudes and dudettes saying you managed to start your own business.
So excuse the lame Barenaked Ladies reference in the title of this post, for those of you who didn’t notice, but money isn’t everything. You can make $100 per day online and be happier and more content than the guy who is making $1000 per day online.
You don’t need to create the next Snapchat or Facebook. You can create your own big thing!
