I’ve heard too many people say “I don’t have time to do it” about many things. And what’s upsetting is that I hear people say that about starting their own business. Finding time to work on your online business in extremely important is this is something you really want.
You only need an hour per day to work on your business. You can change your life with just an hour a day. Did that sound a little too… Life coachy? Oh well. You know what I mean.
If you’re serious about getting your online business going then you’ll find time. Even if you’re working a full time job or travelling around the world you’ll be able to start, and run, an online business.
Let’s talk about how you can find one hour per day, 6 days per week to work on your new lifestyle business. Only going to work 6 days per on this so you get at least one day off per week. I recommend taking at least one full day off to you don’t get burned out or frustrated with your business.
This series of posts was inspired by Shane and Jocelyn Sams over at FlippedLifestyle.com where they made a similar post. I absolutely loved it and thought all you digital nomads and wannabe digital nomads would love it too.
So let’s dig in.
THE IMPORTANCE OF PLANNING
If you’re one of these people who doesn’t think they’ve got the time to work on a business that’ll give you lifestyle you want, then planning is vital. This is where you’ll see that you actually have more free time than you originally thought.
What you’re going to need to do is write down a what you spend each hour of your day doing. Create a chart with 24 blocks and literally write everything down. Block out the hours for when you sleep. If you have a job block those out too.
Now you’ll be able to see what hours you have free. Chalk one of those hours up to work on your business. You can then fill the rest up with other things like shopping, socialising with free etc. The important thing is making sure you allocate at least one hour for your business.
It’s important to be ruthless. If you waste time doing random things make sure you put that into the chart. In a moment we’ll discuss removing the crap so you’ll have that one hour for the day.
Repeat this for each day of the week and hopefully you’ll have an hour dedicated to this for 6 days of the week. Got to have your rest day… You’d have earned it.
CREATING TIME WHEN YOU DON’T HAVE ANY
You’ve created your charts and you see what you’re actually spending your time doing. Are you wasting a lot of your time?
There’s plenty of things we all do during the day that aren’t really that productive. Or at least we can cut out because they’re unnecessary or pointless.
Do you have any hobbies or socialise with friends a lot? Well you can cut back on these things so you can work on your business. I mean isn’t having the lifestyle your own business can bring you more important?
I use to spend almost every evening either playing Xbox with friends or going out partying. That’s a lot of time being wasted where I could have been working on my business. Cut that back to one evening of Xbox with friends and one evening of partying… Boom! That’s 5 evenings where I’ve got at least one hour to work on the business.
What about shopping? Could you drive to a store that’s closer to you or even do your shopping online? I bet you spent a lot of time strolling through the store browsing. Shopping online means less time wasted on travelling to and from the store AND less time wasted strolling through the store.
Just think about things like this and see where you can save 5-10 minutes in places. They’ll soon add up and your future self will thank you when you have a successful business that’ll allow you to spend your time doing what you want.
THE BIGGEST TIME SUCK… SOCIAL MEDIA
Be honest with yourself. How much time to you waste on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube etc. just scrolling through the feeds? Quite a lot I’m guessing.
I use to spend hours watching stupid videos on YouTube. It would get to the point where I would waste whole afternoons and get nothing done. I was a king of procrastination.
We’ve got all these apps on our phones now that are always pinging to tell us someone has done something that really doesn’t affect our daily lives. Everyone wastes too much time. Americans alone spent on average 40 minutes per day on Facebook alone. 40 minutes! That’s just crazy.
Turn off all alerts on your phone and dedicate that time to working on your business.
IT’S ALL UP TO YOU. HOW BADLY DO YOU WANT THIS?
All of this is so you can change your life. Once you’ve got a successful business in your hands you can spend more time socializing with friends. All of these cutbacks in your life are temporary. Once you’ve built up your business to the point where you have more freedom to do what you want you can add this stuff back in. Play more Xbox. Party more. Scroll through Facebook and Instagram feeds.
Until then however dedicate yourself to spending your time business.
Hopefully you’ll find this one hour per day to do this. If you can find more that’s great! No one can turn around and tell me that they don’t have the time. What you’re really saying is “I don’t really want this that badly” and that dudes and dudettes is not how we roll here.
Next we’ll be talking about how you can build your business with just $100 per month. You’ve got your one hour per day, now it’s time to find the $100 each month to invest in yourself.
