There are MANY ways in which you can become one of those young, risk-free, happy go lucky backpackers I know some of you secretly want to be. You’re never to old to travel or have that traveller’s lifestyle (I’ve met people in their 40’s, with kids, on my adventures) so I don’t want to hear that as an excuse.
If you wish to travel but you are thinking to yourself “Oh but I can’t afford it…”
Hogswash! (Can you tell I’ve just been watching pirate movies?)
Of course you can afford it, you just need to be smart about it. There are 3 ways you fund a travel lifestyle, and they are:
- Teach English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)
- Seasonal careers
- Starting your own location independent career
Now let’s break it down further for you dudes and dudettes…
Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)
There are many countries out there that are looking for native English speakers to teach people how to speak English… So if this is your native tongue then congratulations, you’re one step closer.
If you have a university degree or have some experience teaching, normally they’re after at least 2 years, then that also goes in your favour when you apply for jobs in schools abroad.
The best thing you can do though is sign up for a TEFL course. These are courses, most of which can be done online, that teach you how you would teach English to someone who uses English as their second language. You’ll receive all the training you need to do teach someone when you’re abroad so I wouldn’t worry too much about that.
The courses range in price though, from cheap to “ouch that hurts my pockets!” but can find something that will suit your budget.
This is open up to doors to LOTS of countries, especially in Asia. Thailand is a popular choice as it’s also cheap, but expect to get a local wage though.
Seasonal Careers
This is something I want to do myself, even though I do run my own online business, as it seems like a lot of fun!
This is when you get into your ski resort work, cruise ships and things of that nature. You can get seasonal work in ski resorts in Canada, the French Alps, Sweden and many other European countries that offer you a working visa and a job so you can earn money.
So you don’t know how to ski? So what!? You can work in the lodges as maids, waiters and waitresses, reception, etc. but you also get access to the slopes and can sometimes get free ski lessons so it’s also great if skiiing is something you wish to take up too!
I have been looking at a website called Fidget Feet where you can pay for a service and they’ll sort out the visas and even help you find a job on one of the mountains for you too. This is something I really want to do myself as I have a friend who do the same thing and 6 years later, he’s still out in Canada now working as a snowboarding instructor…
JEALOUS!
Would be cool to add snowboarding instructor to my scuba diving instructor to my list of qualifications… Hmmm… Thoughts?
Look into these options. Pop to your local travel agents. STA Travel is a popular worldwide travel company that helps cater to these sort of things… Find your local one and have a chat with them.
Starting Your Own Location Independent Career
More and more people are finding ways to shed the confinements of their office jobs and switching to a remote working environment… Or thanks to the internet, moving online!
Web designer, graphic designer, software designer, travel writer, photographer, consultant, accountant, virtual assistant to name a few, are all different jobs you can do online anywhere in the world.
Here at That Marketing Dude we show you how you can start your own online business. If you even loosely fit into any of those categories above then you’ll easily fit in within the online world of various talents. If you don’t, then places like Wealthy Affiliate trains you on how you can turn your passion/interest/hobby into your very own business.
So no matter what you do now, you can start an online business which will help you fund that travel lifestyle you’re after.
If you decide to go with Wealthy Affiliate you’ll also get extra help from me too. This is where I learned how to do all of this and now I’ve writing this from a beach on the east coast of Australia… Not too bad for a kid from the second largest council estate in Europe hey!
Think about it… You can do this!
Gaining Your Freedom… Yeah Baby!
There’s plenty of things you can do to fund your trip so don’t give me some poor excuse… Excuses are just reasons to justify your laziness.
If you can’t fly, then run. If you can’t run, then walk. If you can’t walk, then crawl… But whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward – Martin Luther King Jr.
So get started in planning your trip around the world and it will all come together! Maybe we’ll run into each other one that big long windy road called life!
Bring your game faces dudes and dudettes!
P.S. If there more ways you think you can fund a round the world trip then let me know, just pop a comment below. As always, don’t forget to hit those pretty Facebook and Twitter button below! Peace out!
