Hey, what is up, dudes and dudettes. You are listening to episode number two of the TMD Show. I am LBT on the mic. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to listen to this show. Now, whether you’re listening to me in the gym, on a travel day, or wherever it is that you’re listening to me, thank you so much for tuning in. It’s a pleasure to have you here.
So for those of you that are new to the show, which you probably are seeing as this is only episode number two, the TMD Show is from thatmarketingdude.com which is a place for digital nomads or location-independent entrepreneurs, or even those that are aspiring to become either of these, to learn how to build their online businesses that will allow them to focus more on travel. It’s a place where you’ll be able to meet other like-minded individuals because, let’s face it, this online journey can be a little bit lonely at times. So whether or not you want to talk about some travel, talk about some business with people that understand why you want to be travelling so much, you know, you’re going to find people there who are going to be your new best friends.
So what is the TMD Show? The TMD Show is a place where I bring on guests who have been all around the world and, you know, have a real passion for travel, as well as online business, and I bring these people on and we co-host an episode to hash out a specific topic for about 20 to 30 minutes. And then once a month I bring on guests who are well travelled to share some travel stories with us because, let’s face it, we all love a good travel story.
Now, the last episode we talked about the first 30 days online and I broke down what you guys could do if you’re brand new, you’ve never started an online business before or, you know, you want to step into a new venture; whatever it is. I broke down everything that you need to do if you only had one hour a day for 30 days. Now, in this episode we’re going to go over the next 30 days. So if you haven’t listened to episode one, go back and listen to that because we’re going to be continuing right where we left off. And also if you don’t have the calendar that I created, which breaks down all 30 days on paper so you can print it off and cross off each day as you go, go and download that as well because it will make it easier to follow along with this episode too. So go and download that. You will find that over on the show notes for today’s episode which is at tmdshow.com/2. That is the number two. tmdshow.com/2. Go and download that, and then you’ll be able to follow on a lot easier than just listening to this episode. So go download that, and I will see you on the other side.
So in the last day of – day number 30 in our first 30 days, we sat down and we planned out 10 different blog posts from the list that we’d gone and created earlier on in the month. You know, we created that list of all the blog posts that we found that are doing really well online in our spaces. So hopefully you guys – well, you should have gone and listed out 10 different blog posts that you think you could write based off of those ideas that you think, you know, you can either improve on posts that you found or you come up with something very similar, and you sort of, like, planned out what each of those posts are going to look like as well.
Well, for the next 11 days – because on day number seven we’re going to be having a day off as well slash a catch-up day. For the first 11 days we’re going to be writing those blog posts out. So we’re going to be writing them out and we’re just going to be publishing them straightaway on our website. Now, the reason, again, why we’re doing that is so when people find our website, we have content for them to see. You know, we just don’t have a blank website with nothing on it apart from a funky-looking home page and about page. So, again, first 11 days start writing those 10 posts out; publish them straightaway so there’s stuff for people to see.
Then on day number 12 and 13 and 15, 16, and 17 – because, again, day 14 is another day off or a catch-up day – on those days, we are going to be writing emails. So we went and purchased ConvertKit last month, which is the program we’re going to be using to send emails to people and, like, build up our email list. Well, now we can write some emails that will automatically go to the people that join our list. They’ll automatically be sent to them. You know, the first email will be sent to them straightaway and then you can send either an email every day or every other day; however often you want. But we are going to write five emails right now.
And the first email we want, which will be the one that goes out straightaway, is a thank you email. So we just want to thank people for joining our email list and also give them the lead magnet. So a lead magnet is some free gift that we’re going to give people to entice them to join our list. Now, we’re going to be doing some lead magnet research and writing that lead magnet later on. But in this email, you just want to thank them and say, “Here is your download,” with the link, or with ConvertKit you can set up the download to go straight to them once they click the confirm button that they want to be on your email list. But we’ll talk about that later as well. But the first email, just a thank you for joining and letting them know that their lead magnet is already on their way, they should’ve got it already before they got that email. If not, you can always put a link to where they can download it, either from your website or, you know, either from, like, Amazon S3 or Dropbox; whatever you wanted. But that’s going to be the first email.
The second email going out one or two days later is going to be asking, like, what can I do to help you. So this is a great question to find out, you know, what people are struggling with. And all the answers that you get or all the replies that you get from this email, this is going to help you to create either future blog posts, videos, podcasts, or it can also help you to, like, define your perfect avatar a little bit more. Like I said, you know, on day number two we went and created our, like, dream customer or perfect avatar. I said that this is going to be something that’s going to be constantly changing. Well, the answers that we get from these people, this is a great time to, like, update not only our dream customer, dream avatar, perfect avatar, not only is it a great time to update that, but it’s also good to start – like, the responses, start planning out sort of, like, what sort of things that you could create that you could potentially sell to people, whether that’s, like, a course, a physical product, like, a video series; you know, whatever it is, you know, you could create a product to sell based off of, like, the answers that you get from these people, especially if you get similar answers back from multiple people. You know, that’s a good sign that there’s something there that you could potentially market and sell.
So make that the second email and really pay attention to the responses. And especially in the early days when, you know, you’re not going to be getting, like, a crazy number of responses, you know, reply back to these people; start the conversation. Because later on in the third 30 days we’re going to be reaching out to people to, you know, jump on Skype and have conversations to, like, define our avatar even more and also just to dig a little bit deeper and find out what exactly we can do to help our audience, our avatars. So really pay attention to those emails. And then day number 14 is going to be the day off or the catch-up. So if you didn’t manage to, like, finish doing all that writing, then perfect time to catch up.
Then on day number 15 we’re going to be thanking people for replying to the email, and it’s just another – that will also act as, like, a reminder for the people that didn’t reply to the first time and say thank you for everybody who did reply to the last email. You know, you will get a few replies from this email to them. And then also this is a great place to mention some social media accounts. So, you know, get them to join, like, your Facebook, your Twitter, your YouTube account; whatever it is that you’ve decided that you want to focus your attention on. Personally, make sure you use Facebook; Facebook groups or a fan page. Groups is probably a little bit better, as you know; you’re probably inside of my Facebook group. It’s a great place to get conversations started with people in your audience. Twitter or Instagram; anything like that. This is a great place to plug your social media accounts too.
Then day number 16 is going to be email number four, and this is – when we go to create our lead magnet later on, we are going to be, like, creating a little extra to go along with it. So this is going to be going out in email number four. We’re not even going to mention it any time beforehand; it’s just going to be something extra to go along with that lead magnet. The reason why we’re going to be doing this is because it is just more giving. You’re going to building your like, know, and trust factor. You know, the more that you can give people, the more they’re going to – more likely to become, like, a raving fan or know that, “Okay. Well, this guy’s awesome. Like, not only did he give me, like, an awesome free gift when I first joined the email list but then he’s also given me this extra thing to go along with it.”
So later on when you do have something to sell, if you’ve given them two, like, awesome pieces of content for free, that is, like, worth paying for itself, when you do come out with something that you want to charge money for, people are going to be like, “Well, the free stuff’s so good; the paid stuff must be even better.” So it’s just going to help you out in the future when you do decide to go to sell something.
And then the final email that we’re going to be creating is just an email that’s going to point towards two or three of the best posts that we went and published in the first 11 days. So obviously right now we’re not going to know which one of those 10 are the most popular. You can probably sort of base it off of, you know, the research that we did with, like, Buzzsumo; we found out which ones got the most social media shares. You know, if you went and created something very similar to one of the most popular ones, then chances are your post is going to be popular too. So this is a great time to plug the best two or three. This is something you can always change later on, you know, once we do start getting more traffic to the website and find out that, you know, maybe the eighth post that you wrote is more popular than the third one so you change the email to point people towards the eighth post instead. Basically, we just want to get people coming back to the site more often. So that’s going to be email number five.
So try and set it up so you’ve got the first email going out straightaway; the second email going out two or three days later; the next email going out two or three days later; and so on and so on. So we want all of these emails to go out in the space of about – I’d say between seven to 10 days. And we can always create more emails later on to add on to the series, but this is a great starting point for an email series. So that’s going to be what we’re going to be doing up to day number 17.
Day number 18 we’re going to be researching lead magnets. This is going to be something that’s specific to your audience, something that they can download that’s going to be, like, a quick win. This could be something as simple as, like, a cheat sheet, an eBook, a short video explaining; whatever it is, you know, that you think people will want from you in this space. And this is where all the research that we did earlier on on, you know, finding our competition, you can see what sort of lead magnets they’re doing or they’re offering to people and you can create something similar or improve on it again. You know, we’re not copying people; we want to model what’s already working just so, you know, we can make the most out of the short amount of time that we’re spending on doing this right now. So figure out something that you could create for someone to give away to join your email list; short and sweet simple wins or quick wins. They’re normally the most popular things; something that people can digest very quickly.
And then day number 18, 19, and 20, this is where you’re going to do, like, all the research. So look into what other people are doing and think up some ideas that you can go and create yourself too. Day number 21 is some more catch-up or a day off. If you do need to play some catch-up, it’s more likely going to be doing the email series. But then day number 22 we’re now going to plan and create an outline for that lead magnet. So hopefully we’ve got a few ideas on things that we could go and create, and now we’re going to outline what we’re going to put inside this lead magnet, whether or not that’s a video, PDF download, a cheat sheet; whatever it is, we’re going to be doing that.
Day number 23 we’re going to be planning out that extra giveaway that I mentioned in email number four. So when you’re planning out your lead magnet on day number 22, you know, you can sort of, like, come up with some ideas of, like, something extra to go along with that. So this is where we’re going to, like, do the outline for that one as well. And then day number 24, 25, 26, and 27 we are going to be creating the lead magnet and that little extra giveaway. So you’ve got four days there to go and create that. Day number 28 is another catch-up. Day number 29 we’re going to be uploading that to ConvertKit. ConvertKit has some awesome tutorials of showing you how to do that, but it’s super simple to do. Upload it to ConvertKit. And if you did want to add that link inside of that first email as well, then you can upload it to Dropbox and put your Dropbox link in the first email too.
And then finally day number 30 we’re going to be planning out five blog posts that we’re going to write at the beginning of the next month, and we’re going to be scheduling these ones out this time one per week so we’ve got consistent content going out every single week, which not only Google will love to see that you’re site’s active but your audience is going to love as well.
Now, these 30 says, like I mentioned in the last, this is probably going to be one of the cheaper months of the two because the only expense that we’ve got for this month is ConvertKit and that’s $29 for the month again. So last month we spent about $160; this month, we’re only spending $29. So, like I said, the first month is all the upfront fees for most of the services that we are going to be using; this month, nice and cheap.
So hopefully, guys, if you don’t have this calendar to help you work through all this, you’ll be able to find the download link to grab it yourself at the show notes for today’s episode at tmdshow.com/2. That is the number two. tmdshow.com/2. And we are well on our way to creating a website that is going to be absolutely awesome, that people are going to love. So in the next 30 days we have got a little bit more to do; most of it is going to be reaching out to expand our audience and getting to know other people in our space. We’re going to be looking into doing some, like, guest posting stuff and talking to our audience some more.
So nice, short, simple, and sweet episode today. Hopefully you guys managed to follow along. Again, if you want to, like, make it easier on yourself to follow along with this episode, go back and listen to it with that cheat sheet. So I’m going to end it here, guys. I’m going to be back in your ears again – well, whenever you want, because the next episode is already published too. And we are going to finish off the last 30 days so we’ve got 90 days, and at the end you are going to have an awesome website, hopefully with some good traffic coming towards you; you know, you’re starting to build relationships with people in your space, and then you’re well on your way to creating that business that is going to give you the lifestyle that you want. It’s been an absolute pleasure to be in your ears today, and I will talk to you in the next episode which has already been published, like I said, and, yeah, that is it. Let’s keep it under 20 minutes. And I’ll see you again soon. Take care, guys. Bye. Fist bump.
